Surfing and Swimming
Surf or swim the Atlantic Ocean on one of Sherkin’s four beautiful beaches. Silver Strand pictured below is 300 metres away from North Shore. The Abbey Pier and Horseshoe Harbour are other popular swimming spots.


Hiking
Immerse yourself in the natural beauty of Ireland’s Wild Atlantic Way. Sherkin Island is within the Roaringwater Bay Special Area of Conservation, offering a diverse landscape with a range of coastal and marine habitats. The island is home to over 450 species of flora and fauna, a wide variety of migrant bird species, impressive mammals, and more. Whether it be a walk along one of the many sandy beaches, a picnic on top of a beautiful cliff, or a climb to the highest point on Slievemore the outdoor possibilities are endless.

Sailing
Baltimore and Roaringwater Bay are truly a sailor’s paradise. Whether a beginner, or an experienced sailor, you will have access to local sailing schools, a sailing club, and yacht charter company on both Heir Island and Baltimore.

Star gazing and astronomy
Located at the most southwestern corner of Ireland, we have very little light pollution. Sherkin is a perfect spot for night photography and astronomy enthusiasts.

Archaeology
Explore Sherkin’s archaeological sites, including a Franciscan abbey, the monk’s gardens, mass rocks, souterrains, standing stones and pre famine dwellings.
